Obituary

Mike (Raymond) Viens, of Winooski, passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2024, age 72.

Mike married Jane, the love of his life, in 1981. Mike will be remembered for living life to the fullest and always being there for his family and friends.

Mike had an amazing & quirky sense of humor and loved joking around with everyone near and far (often due to his inability to be quiet in anything he did). He loved messing around with people in a playful way to elicit a laugh and was known to go along with any joke or prank without hesitation. Mike had a loud and contagious laugh and a smile that radiated through his eyes. He was undeniably stubborn and was never afraid to stick up for those he loved or the beliefs he held. He was known for his love all things tacky, unique, colorful, or "fun". Mike, a true Vermonter, loved all things maple and would put maple syrup on everything and would even hang empty maple syrup jugs from his maple tree much to the horror of his kids (and his amusement).

Since retirement, he spent his time puttering around the house and garden. He was often working on one of his many 'creative projects' and convincing Jane they were either great ideas or how "good it would look". He always looked forward to a visit from his "much older" (less than a year) sister Paulette and chatting over a cup of coffee.

Mike was so proud of his kids and all their accomplishments, every single one that he played a direct role in through the unconditional love and support that he provided.

Family was always most important to him and he cherished spending time with family telling stories, joking around, bantering, and just being "little Ray". Mike's favorite role was undoubtedly being Pepere to John and Maddie. He was not shy, telling everyone that being a grandparent was better than being a parent, because his grandkids were perfect because he knew he couldn't have anything but "perfect" grandkids. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter Amanda and her husband Mike Murphy, and their children, John and Madeleine; and sons Sam and Jake. He is further survived by his three sisters Paulette (Mark) Noyes, Rose (Brian) Chicoine, Denise (Paul) Provost; and two brothers Gerry (Sharon) and Richard (Tracy); as well as a large extended family, and friends. Mike is predeceased in death by his parents Raymond and Claire (Thibault).

A celebration of life will be held at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, Winooski, on Monday, August 12, at 11:00am. Following the Celebration of Life, there will be a graveside service at St. Francis Xavier in Winooski. A reception will follow at 12:00pm at the VFW in Winooski.

Mike's family requests that attendees wear brightly colored clothing, Hawaiian shirts, flamingo themed clothing etc. to honor his love of colors and all things tacky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike's name can be made to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
