Rita Irene Messier, 57, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington following a brief illness. Rita and her identical twin Rose were born on Wednesday, May 10, 1967, in Northfield.

Rita enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, going out to eat, fishing, going for walks, baking and vacationing on the coast of Maine.

Rita was predeceased by her parents Normande (Fortin) and Albert Messier. Surviving are her three sisters, Sylvia Billings of Northfield, Dianne Messier of West Topsham, and her twin Rose Messier of Hardwick, as well as nieces and nephews Nicholas Billings, Joshua Billings, Katie Burt, Jacob Burt, Kiara Burt, Kai-Leaigh Burt, Blake Billings, Ava Billings and Jackson Billings.

Rita is also survived by her loving home provider, Tawny Pecor of Barre who cared for her in her last two years of life.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 6th, 2024, at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Father Scott Gratton will be the celebrant. The burial will take place following the funeral Mass at the Calvary Cemetery in Northfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 206 Vine St., Northfield, VT 05663.
