Robert D.
Champine
Aug 24, 1968 — Apr 7, 2024
Robert 'Bobby' D. Champine - 55 lost his battle with depression, choosing to end his life, on April 7, 2024. Born August 24, 1968, in Rutland, VT, he was the son of Linwood Champine and the late Donna Bink.
Bobby grew up in Danby, VT and attended Mill River High School, in Rutland, VT through 11th grade, then decided to leave school and start his working career full time. Bobby worked at R.K. Miles, for several years with L. White Const. in Danby until he met Tracey Towne, had his son, and moved to Waterbury, VT in 2003. Once settled, he worked for Willie's Garage in Stowe, then SunDown Corp. where he drove a dump truck and became a close friend of owner Paul Reed. Once Paul sold SunDown to Walker's Const., Bobby worked for Walker's for 12 years, up until his death. Bobby was a hard worker and was usually there early asking where he was being sent for the day. He will be missed by anyone who worked with him over the years.
Bobby was a self taught mechanic, starting back in his teens. He enjoyed helping others with any vehicle issues, he would drop whatever he was doing to assist someone. If you were to locate Bobby on a weekend, he was either tearing a vehicle apart or under the hood of a vehicle, this may be why he always wore his hat backwards, you would never see him wearing his hat with the visor in the front.
He was a helper, he would help with vehicles, shoveling snow, any electrical work, and building something. He was a jack of all trades and would assist with anything, and wouldn't expect or ask for anything in return. Now if you knew Bobby well or he helped you often, you know he would never say no to a 12-pack of Bud Light for the work he had done.
Bobby also enjoyed NASCAR and was a big fan of Jeff Gordon. When he was free from work or not working on a vehicle, he could be found hanging with a friend or two enjoying a cold one.
Bobby's biggest pride was his son, Dylan. When Dylan was younger they were inseparable, Dylan would get under a vehicle with him and help with whatever he could, even if it were handing him a tool. Dylan enjoyed going to work with his dad and riding in the dump truck, spending the day with him, Bobby enjoyed it more than anything having Dylan with him. Dylan has many fond memories of his dad, which he will carry with him forever. Of course, they had their ups and downs as Dylan became a teenager, and became a bit more independent and more verbal, they would have their disagreements, but they would make up quickly. He would help Dylan with his vehicles, no matter what he was doing or how late he worked… he was there for Dylan. He loved Dylan with all his heart and Dylan loved him… he will be greatly missed.
Bobby is survived by his son, Dylan, of Waterbury Center. Brothers David of Danby, and Wayne of NY. His father Linwood, of Danby, two nieces Brooke and Samira Champine, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be deeply missed by Tracey Towne, with whom he continued a friendship after separating, helping each other with so much, his dear friend/co-worker, 'brother' Kermit Blais, close friends RJ Farnsworth, Joanne Wells, and her family. They have been like family to Bobby for the last few years, he enjoyed spending time with them all.
He is predeceased by his mother Donna Bink, Paternal grandparents Linwood and Irma Champine; Maternal grandparents Jacob Sr. and Doris Bink, aunts Carol and Linda; several uncles - Glenn, Kenneth, Richard, Wayne, Jacob Jr., Kenneth, and one special Uncle he enjoyed spending time with and talking about their truck driving adventures, George Heath.
