Obituary

Rodney H Allen, devoted husband and father, died at the age of 93 on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Jack Byrne Palliative and Hospital Care Facility in Hanover, NH. He was born in Cambridge, Vermont on August 8, 1930, the son of Harold Allen Sr. and Ethel (Jacobs) Allen.

He grew up and attended Waterville, Chelsea and Fayston schools and married Evelyn (Maxham) Allen on June 13, 1954 in Fayston.

After serving four years in the US Navy, his career started as a carpenter. He later became a self-employed general contractor which morphed into a career in masonry.

He helped many neighbors and his children build homes. His early years he not only held a full time job but also "moonlighted" in the evening hours. His biggest regret was not being able to spend more time with his children during that time.

His hobbies included working with wood, crafting furniture and using his lathe for wooden bowls of many sizes and shapes. He also loved to do stained glass with his favorite being wildlife pieces. Two of his final stained glass pieces were name plaques which he then presented to Governor Scott and Senator Leahy.

Survivors include his four children, Richard (Paulette) Allen of West Berlin, Deb (Frank) Partlow of West Berlin, Diane (Ray) Seaver of Williamston and Steve (Wendy) Allen of Northfield, six Grandchildren, Kathi Partlow, Aimee Carter, Rick Mercier, Angela Hayward, Steven Allen and Jason Allen and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Evelyn, he is predeceased by his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care, 154 Hitchcock Loop, Lebanon, NH 03766,
