Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Leggett, 76, of Colchester, VT, passed away on October 29, 2026, peacefully / surrounded by his family. He was born on November 13, 1949, in Burlington, VT.

On December 9, 1978, Ron married the love of his life, Carol, and for 47 years they shared a partnership grounded in devotion, laughter, and a deep love of family. Together they loved nothing more than being with their family, and Ron beamed whenever everyone was gathered together. They treasured their time side by side, taking drives around Vermont to places like Johnson, Underhill, and Middlebury, antiquing along the way and soaking in the beauty of the state they called home. Their love built a beautiful life and a family that was the center of Ron’s world.

Ron proudly served in the Army National Guard for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Ron spent 45 years at General Dynamics. After a brief retirement, he returned, because he loved the work and, even more, the people. The friendships he made there became a second family to him, from his marathon running mates, to his Friday morning coffee gatherings, to his golf buddies, to the colleagues he was always happy to share family stories and photos with.

Music and good food were a constant in Ron’s life. He loved recording songs, from love ballads and Beatles favorites to Christmas carols, and The Eagles were always among his favorites. He played multiple instruments and passed his love of music on to his children and grandchildren. He was also a devoted cook, and his apple cake was a family treasure. When he wasn’t in the kitchen or making music, you could find him on the golf course.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife Carol; his son, John Leggett (Heather); his daughter, Becca Robare (Jordan); his former daughter-in-law, Christine (Carlos); Lindsay Canfield (Ryan), who was like a second daughter to him; and his cherished grandchildren, Owen, Addie, Ian, Harper, and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Phyllis Bouffard (Mark); by his sister, Rhonda Lozell (Bill). He was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Leggett (Maureen).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a wake at LaVigne Funeral Home, Winooski, VT, on Wednesday, November 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church on Thursday, November 5, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McClure Miller Respite House.
