It is with heartfelt sorrow that we share the passing of Sandra D. Abascal, aged 79, of Northfield, Vermont, on April 20, 2026. She passed away peacefully, with her beloved niece by her side.

Born on February 12, 1947, Sandra was the cherished daughter of Charlie and Goldie Hedges. She spent her entire life in her treasured home on Water Street in Northfield, where she built a life centered on family, kindness, and community. On August 10, 1968, she married Michael Abascal, the great love of her life.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Abascal, along with her parents, Charlie and Goldie Hedges, and other cherished family members.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother Bobby Hedges and his wife Rosanne; her sisters Barbara Hedges, Peggy Bartlett and her husband Clyde, Gladys Bean and her husband John, and Gloria Lyford, whose husband, Michael "Mickey" Lyford, predeceased her. She also leaves behind numerous adored nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-nephew, all of whom she cherished deeply.

Sandra dedicated over 30 years of her career to serving the State of Vermont before retiring and continuing her professional journey with Northfield Savings Bank, where she worked for several more years.

She will always be celebrated for her boundless love and compassion. She had an extraordinary gift for putting others first, offering kindness and support wherever it was needed. Her warmth and generosity left an unforgettable mark on all who crossed her path.

She will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Sandra will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and honor Sandra's life will take place at Calvary Cemetery for family and friends, with the date to be determined at a later time.
