Stephen "Steve"
Wilson
Jun 2, 1946 — Sep 2, 2026
Bolton, VT
Stephen “Steve” Wilson was born on June 2, 1946, in Dexter, Maine, the youngest of five children born to Blanche (Rowe) Hamilton. After graduating from Newport High School, Steve attended the University of Maine, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics.
At the age of 23, Steve moved to Burlington, Vermont, and began a career with JCPenney that would span 25 years. Following his retirement, he opened Wilson’s Country Store in Milton, Vermont, which he owned and operated for 16 years before finally retiring for good.
Steve loved his family fiercely, and the only thing he loved just as much was his dogs. He always gave each one a proper middle name, because that was simply the kind of dog dad he was.
Steve loved gardening and spending time outdoors in nature. His beautiful gardens earned him the distinction of “Best Yard” many times over. He was known as a generous, loyal, and loving friend who was always there for others, filling the gap for so many during difficult times in their lives.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Hamilton; her partner, Earnest Hersey; and all of his beloved siblings: his eldest sister, Earline; his twin sisters, Joanne and Jeanne; and his older brother, Donn.
Steve will be deeply loved and missed by his nieces and nephews, to whom he was always the fun uncle—the one who came to town to spoil them or brought them along to Lake Champlain when they visited him in Vermont. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and a “Hi, sweetheart,” and he had a laugh that was impossible to forget.
He will be remembered as a gentle soul and a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Steve’s memory and in honor of his faithful dog, Lilly Rose, to For The Love Of Dogs, Vermont.
