Obituary

Burlington, VT - Wayne C. "Skip" Hovey, 84, died on January 1st, 2024. He was born on January 26, 1939, in Corning, N.Y., son of the late Kenneth L. and Mabel T. Hovey. He graduated from Essex Junction High School in 1957. Skip then completed a two-year pre-forestry curriculum at the University of Vermont receiving his B.S. of Forestry at the University of Montana plus was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, receiving a Regular commission as a 1st Lieutenant. Skip completed flight training in 1964 and was assigned to the C-130 aircraft in the Tactical Air Command until resigning in 1968 as a Captain. Shortly thereafter he was employed as a pilot, eventually becoming Chief Pilot, with Air North, Inc. for six years, living in Essex Junction, VT. Plus he joined the VT Army Air Guard for 3 years. Skip joined Northern Telecom, Inc. in 1974 becoming Director of Aviation of their aviation departments in Nashville, TN, and Toronto, Canada - retiring in 1994.

Skip married the love of his life and soul-mate Sally L. Stowell (deceased June 10, 2011) of Burlington, Vermont on June 14, 1966.

He is survived by his brother - Stanford T. and wife Sandra L. Hovey, sisters-in-law - Janice K. Stowell, Nieces - Judy L. Kerr, Susan M. Slattery, Mary L. Stowell, Jennifer L. Stowell, Nephews - Micheal T. Hovey, Clay K. Hovey, Van H. Stowell, Adam T. Stowell, several grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8th, 11 AM at Lakeview Cemetery, Burlington, VT.
