Obituary

Wendell Allen Magoon Sr., 85, passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center on October 1, 2024. Born in Chelsea, VT to Arthur Thompson and Katherine Barnes, Wendell went to school in Chelsea before joining the US Army in the late '50's at the age of 18.

Wendell was extremely proud of his military career, which took him all over the world. He proudly served for 36 years, joining the reserves and later the guard. During his military career he also joined law enforcement, graduating from Pittsford Academy and serving in police forces in Washington County.

He had a deep love for antique cars, clocks, and Elvis Presley, with whom he served in Germany. In his early years he enjoyed racing and had a brief but very exciting racing career. Wendell dearly loved his grandmother Goldie Sumner, a loving, creative farm woman who raised him and taught him the value of love and serving his country and community. She was an incredibly strong (and strong-willed) woman who was known for her cooking, quilting and her participation in the community.

Wendell is survived by his children Cynthia Sayers, Wanda Magoon, Lisa Judd and her husband Michael Judd Sr, Wendell Magoon Jr and his wife Nancy Magoon, as well as Nicholas Magoon. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A burial with military honors will take place on Thursday, October 17th at 1:00 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph. Arrangements are in the care of Kingston Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veterans Association https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/donate_online/
