Wesley B.
Atwood
Jan 1, 1930 — Sep 23, 2025
Wesley (John) B. Atwood, of Richmond, Vermont, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025.
Born in Bolton on January 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Frank and Bertha (Griffin) Atwood.
John will be remembered as a devoted family member, a kind neighbor, and a friend to many. His life was rooted in hard work and simple joys, especially his years spent farming. John had a deep love for the land, caring for his cows and horses with dedication and pride. He also had a lifelong appreciation for animals of all kinds, as well as a fondness for farm equipment, which he enjoyed working with and talking about. John always enjoyed time spent with his friend, Doug St. Amour, whose companionship brought him happiness throughout the years.
Some of his happiest days were those spent alongside his nephew, Bill Atwood. Together they shared countless hours of work, laughter, and companionship, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. John's family would also like to acknowledge the thoughtfulness and kindness of his nephew, Jim Callahan, whose support meant so much to him.
John was predeceased by three sisters, Thelma Ashley, Doris Callahan, and Eunice "Cookie" Fitzpatrick; three brothers, Donald "Don" Atwood, Orrin "Bud" Atwood, and Everett Atwood; and his loyal dog, Dakota, who remained a constant companion by his side.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he admired and loved dearly. He is also survived by extended family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. John's legacy will live on through the lives he touched with kindness, care, and his deep love for the farming life.
A graveside burial service will be held in Richmond, Vermont, at Riverview Cemetery, 1032 W Main Street, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Barre Gardens for the compassionate care they provided to John, as well as to all who have offered support during this time.
