Obituary

William George "Bill" Stone, 83, of Richmond, Vermont, passed away on April 25, 2026.

Bill was born on March 29, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Over the course of his life, he became known as a deeply giving man—someone who showed his care through steady, lifelong dedication to others.

For more than 40 years, Bill devoted himself to caring for Martin, Jeremy, and Hugh, who meant the world to him. His commitment to them spoke volumes about his character: patient, selfless, and quietly strong.

He is survived by his children, Lynne (Mark) Crockford of Kingsford, Michigan, and Dan Stone of Orlando, Florida; his siblings, Jerry (June) Stone of Iron Mountain, Michigan, and Mary Ray of Gwinn, Michigan; and his grandchildren, Dakota, Adam, and Jacob Crockford of Kingsford, Michigan.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: George (Lindsay) Stone of Coronado, California; Geoffrey (Angela) Stone of Circleville, Ohio; Joe Ray of Marquette, Michigan; Kathleen (Jeremiah) Bostick of Gwinn, Michigan; Natalie and Nicholas Stone of Circleville, Ohio; and Gwenyth and Lenorah Stone of Colorado, California.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Claudia, and his parents, William Clare and Georgetta Doris Stone.

Bill made his home in Richmond, Vermont, alongside the love of his life, Claudia. Those who knew him take comfort in hoping they are reunited now.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his dry sense of humor, and the way he balanced a kind heart with a toughness that earned him the affectionate nickname "older than dirt."

Bill's life was defined not by grand gestures, but by consistent acts of care and devotion. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

A private graveside service will be held by his family in Ohio.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, those who wish to honor Bill's memory are encouraged to adopt a pet or make a donation to a local humane society, reflecting his love for animals—especially rescues.
